Harry Potter’s Headmaster is GAY?!

Mr. Christopher bringing some news that completely went under the radar for me. The world of Harry Potter has been turned upside down and topsy turvy this week as J.K. Rowlings officially announced that the Headmaster of Hogwarts is gay. One has to wonder if this announcement was something that has been known since the beginning or a new development used to add a little bit of frenzy. And then one wonders if calling him Headmaster is such a good idea now.

I am SOOO Sorry. I had to say it. Don’t even act like I was the only one who thought that.

dumbledore.jpgJ.K. Rowlings, author of the Harry Potter series, outed Albus Dumbledore in front of a full house at Carnegie Hall to the shock of everyone in attendance. How did it come about? A question and answer session was held and a person in attendance asked if Dumbledore would ever find true love. Rowlings responded, ““Dumbledore is gay,” and the crowd gasped and applauded. The gasps could be heard a full mile away.

But this is going to cause a complete hail storm for Rowlings whether she’s aware of it or not. Whether or not this was a publicity stunt or not, she’s just opened a can of “holy crap”. If she thought that the parents and members of the Christian Coalition had a problem with the “black magic” aspect of the stories, just wait until they learn about this closet door that just swung open. If Rowlings thinks for one second that there won’t be backlash about this, she’s in for a very rude awakening. Because now you have a book series that deals with magic and homosexuality and is in the hands of the millions of children across the globe. There’s a storm coming.

One company that is excited about this development is GLAAD (Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation). GLAAD’s President Neil G. Giuliano is quoted as saying, “It’s wonderful that J.K. Rowling would help open readers’ eyes to the life and truth of such a beloved character. Rowling’s decision to allow readers to see Dumbledore for all of who he is — and her determination to preserve the authenticity of his character in the films — will enrich the power of these stories for generations to come.”

What’s your opinion of this new development? Is this a publicity stunt to sell another few million copies of the books?
